SERVICES
Typesetting

Typesetting is a professional service we offer that is essential in the overall success of your book. A typesetter will accomplish many things in one project, including making sure that the layout meets all conventional standards, isn't amatuerish in concept, and conforms to good basic typographical practice.
We use the professional layout tool, Adobe InDesign, for most of our typesetting projects. We also use other graphic design software for various aspects of the book design business, although InDesign is the tool we use most for the interior layout of books. With InDesign we fine tune optical alignment, that helps to create a uniform look to the edges of the text blocks. We also have full control over the widow and orphan problems inherent in the layout process. With full textual control we enjoy creating and designing books that not only readable, but are a pleasure to experience.
It is important for the client to realize that client changes to the book do usually incur extra charges after the layout has been completed. If the changes are few, and are at the request of the Author (Author Alterations), or the Editor (Editor Alterations), this can sometimes be overlooked. But if the changes are many and cause problems with the layout, they would then be billed hourly.
We ready the book for the printer, and provide electronic PDF submission, as well as hardcopy via courier service if the printer requires it.
Our turnaround time depends upon how busy we are with other projects at the moment. Usually you might see sample pages within a couple of weeks of job acceptance. A first proof might come in a month or so. With total project time between two and three months before the book is ready for the printer.
In todays competitive market your book needs that extra edge laid out in a professional manner to get a leg up on the competition.
Cover Design

Covers are usually billed flat rate. That includes a couple of different concepts and a final rendering of a finished cover once the concept has been approved by the client. If changes are made to the design once the work is underway, this will incur additional hourly charges. As with typesetting projects, there is a "kill fee"clause included in our cover design contract.
The cover of your book is one of the most important features. People do judge books by their covers, whether it's correct to do so or not. The cover is the main selling point your book has on the shelf. It is also a major selling point to reviewers, book buyers and distributors. If people don't like what they see, they will most likely not take your book as seriously as you would like. You've worked hard on your book, and we will work hard to make sure that your book has a professional and attractive cover or jacket. Something of which you can be proud.
Proofreading

Proofreading compares a document against the original to verify accuracy. It also can be checking pages that have been typeset against copyedited pages to make sure that all marked changes have been made correctly. And there is the instance of proofreading where the document is gone over for typographical errors.
Copyediting

Checking the document for formatting, grammar, punctuation, capitilization, etc. We also, at the clients request, do light editing to sentences where needed.
